Hotel Development, Chilton
Chiltern, Oxfordshire
This 80-bedroom hotel, situated in Chiltern, Oxfordshire, occupies an underused site adjacent to the A34, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The development is designed to blend seamlessly into its surroundings while providing modern amenities, including restaurants and leisure facilities.
The building's design is divided into two primary sections. The first is a vernacular, two-storey structure that forms the principal element of the development. This section features a tiled pitch roof and flint-based walling, which are in keeping with the local architectural style. This approach not only respects the character of the area but also creates a visually appealing entrance as one approaches the hotel.
The secondary element of the design incorporates a habitat grass roof, which is intended to promote biodiversity within the site. This roof, along with the integration of solar photovoltaic panels above the parking area, contributes to the building’s environmental sustainability. The project aims to deliver a biodiversity net gain, enhancing the ecological value of the site.
Overall, the development is carefully designed to harmonize with the landscape, providing a positive contribution to the AONB while meeting contemporary standards for hospitality and environmental responsibility.
